Once a Castle, Always a Castle

Since the 1990s, the interiors of the second floor, which formerly housed a museum and gallery, have undergone complete renovation. In 2002, "The Salons of the Second Chateau Floor" exhibition was opened in these premises, presenting collections from the depositories of historical buildings in the Hradec Králové and Pardubice regions to the public. In the same year, Náchod Castle was declared a National Cultural Monument. In the early years of the new millennium, the small clock tower was renovated. In 2007, another tour route called "At the Ducal Court" (which had already been planned by the National Cultural Commission in the 1950s) was presented to the public, introducing the figure of Duke Peter von Biron of Courland and Sagan. Since 2008, Náchod Castle has been under the jurisdiction of the National Heritage Institute, regional office in Josefov. In 2012, a fourth tour route was added to the three interior tour routes, presenting a unique collection of orders of orders, jewelry, medals, and coins. In 2013, the National Heritage Institute was reorganized, and since then, Náchod Castle has been administered by the Regional Heritage Administration in Sychrov. In 2014, a complete renovation of the main castle tower began. Preparations were also made for the renovation of the castle hill, which was carried out between 2020 and 2022. Since 2021, the castle exhibitions have been undergoing a complete reinstallation, with two new installations being presented to the public – the State Rooms and the Private Apartments, which showcase two important families and their collections, previously stored in depositories. The paintings and floors are being gradually restored, and the roof coverings are also being renovated.
