The Chateau that Never Stopped Being a Castle
Since the 1990s, the interiors of the second floor, which formerly housed the museum and gallery, have been completely renovated. In 2002, the exhibition Salons of the second floor of the castle was opened in these premises, presenting to the public collections from the depositories of the monuments of Hradec Králové and Pardubice. This year, Náchod Castle was declared a National Cultural Monument. In the first years of the new millennium, the small clock tower was restored. In 2007, another sightseeing tour called “In the Duke's Court” was introduced to the public (which was already intended by the National Cultural Commission in the 1950s) and presented the figure of Duke Peter Biron Kuronský and Zaháňský. Since 2008, the Náchod castle has been under the National Heritage Institute, a territorial expert workplace in Josefov. In 2012, a fourth exposition was added to the three interior tours, which presented a unique collection of orders of distinction, jewels, medals and coins. In 2013, the National Heritage Institute was reorganized and the Náchod Chateau has since been administered by the Sychrov Territorial Heritage Administration. In 2014, a complete restoration of the main castle tower was started. Preparations were also underway for the restoration of the castle hill, which was carried out between 2020 and 2022. Since 2021, a complete reinstallation of the castle expositions has been underway, with two new installations being presented to the public - The Castle During the Time of the Piccolominis and The Castle During the Time of the Schaumburg-Lippe, which present two important families and their collections, previously stored in depositories. The paintings and floors are gradually being restored, while the roofing is being restored.
