Náchod - Once a Castle, Always a Castle

The Náchod Chateau complex, whose history dates to the mid-13th century, comprises a total of five interconnected courtyards. Its oldest parts - the massive cylindrical tower, the rampart fortifications, and the main palace - still bear the hallmarks of a Gothic castle and later Renaissance reconstruction. The chateau acquired its current appearance during the Baroque period, when it was expanded with additional buildings. The chateau is surrounded by an extensive park on the castle hill, which underwent a general restoration between 2020 and 2022. Among the notable owners of the estate were the Smiřický family of Smiřice, the Trčka of Lípa family, the Piccolomini family, the Dukes of Courland, and the House of Schaumburg-Lippe.
